SkyGuardian is a developing project, currently sponsored by nomos, that explores the use of drone technology for a range of environmental and public health applications. From monitoring ecosystems and surveying hard-to-reach areas to addressing invasive species, drone technology is to provide precise, noninvasive, low-impact, and cost-effective results.
Addressing Key Challenges
SkyGuardian’s initial focus is on tackling the threats posed by invasive species like the pine processionary caterpillar (Thaumetopoea pityocampa) and the Asian yellow-legged hornet (Vespa velutina). These pests cause significant ecological damage and health risks, making effective, noninvasive solutions crucial. Both species are a major public health and ecological concern in Europe.
Our solution
SkyGuardian aims to use drones equipped with advanced sensors to deliver targeted solutions. While currently in the prototype phase, the technology can show promise in:
- Controlling invasive species with minimal environmental impact.
- Environmental monitoring and surveying for various applications, including forest health and wildlife monitoring.
Why It Matters and How You Can Help
Supporting SkyGuardian means contributing to an innovative, sustainable solution with broad applications, from tackling invasive species like the pine processionary caterpillar and Asian hornet to enabling precise environmental monitoring.
By donating to our association, you can directly help us:
- Scale the Project: Funds will allow us to improve and expand the capabilities of the prototype, making it more effective for broader applications.
- Acquire Licenses & Certifications: With enough support, we can secure the necessary licenses to operate formally and expand professional services where needed.
- Integrate AI & Automation: Additional funding will help us incorporate AI for even more precision and automation, reducing manual intervention and increasing efficiency and safety.
What You Get in Return
- Free Services for Local Areas: Your donation could result in free work using our prototype, such as eliminating an invasive species nest, like the Asian hornet or pine processionaries, in hard-to-reach locations (up to 60 meters high or inaccessible areas), or sensitive locations like trees near schools or public areas.
- Recognition & Impact: Donors will be acknowledged on our website and in project communications, showcasing your role in helping protect local environments and support cutting-edge solutions.
- Long-Term Benefits: With continued support, SkyGuardian will grow into a self-sustaining service, creating long-term value for your community by reducing the costs and risks associated with invasive species and improving local ecosystem health.
If we raise enough funds, we can expand the project’s reach, automate processes, and improve precision, providing a significant, lasting impact on the region.
